Deimos Journal, Cont.
The Next Day...
Kiva and I stayed in my (our?) room throughout the morning. I brought her breakfast in bed, which I think she liked. She seems a little shy, like she's embarrassed because of what we did. I'm reveling in it and I hope that our relationship can grow stronger over time.
I went downstairs at Noontime, Kiva stayed in bed. I gambled with some of the soldiers and made some money. I had fun, but that changed in Latfe Afternoon when a man screamed upstairs. I made it upstairs before any of the soldiers, thank Ishta. Aparrently, a few soldiers decided to see what the elf was like, he mistook (or maybe not) their meaning and slaughtered the fools. Luckily, there was a young Knight-Captain there to keep the other soldiers in line.
We gathered the party together and met with the Duke. He informed us that for some reason the Church and his kingdom have withdrawn all military support. There is an army marching towards his city. The vangard of this army is ten thousand stronger than the Duke's army, and the enemy's main army is many times that size.
I wonder why the Church withdrew its support? I know that my duty is not to reason why and all that, but if this Duchy falls, Harmonia and Gien are open to an attack from the rear while fighting the orcs to the south. It would be in their best interests to keep this Duchy standing as a rear guard as long as they could.
Oh well...
The Duke wants us to escort his Seer and daughter, who is still a child of a mere eleven years, to the Nation of the Dwarves. One of their kings is on good terms with the Duke and should provide reinforcements. I have been charged with negotiating this treatise with the Dwarven King.
Once done with the mission I should be in place to satisfy a question of mine. Who is behind all of this? Who or what is uniting these races to put aside racial animosities and join forces to rise up and destroy the human kingdoms? Are they in league with the Orcs, the Elves most hated enemies? Or have Humans now replaced Orcs in their minds? Why? What are the black worm things that tear out through our enemies throats once they have been killed?
After we are finished with the Dwarves I plan to investigate this matter much further. We will be behind the Elven Army's lines. If I had a larger force than I would strike at them using hit and run tactics. Alas, this must be a scouting mission only. It is possible that one person is behind all of this. I that is the case then we can end this war with his death. If you cut off the head, the serpent will die.
What will be will be. All is not lost.
