Stupid people at work.
I'm sitting here at work and I am reminded over and over again just how stupid some people can be. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my job and I get paid a lot more than the work is worth. I sit in a cubicled office 5 days a week and take calls all day. That's it. And yet some people are so stupid that they can mess this up.
For example, I received this account-wide memo when I logged in this morning:
Hey again folks,
This is not a new policy, but one that has been sorely overlooked for a while now. Some folks are using their cell phones all day while they work, and that simply can't happen anymore. Hey, I know emergencies happen and sometimes someone may need to get in touch with you right away. I'm not talking about those exceptions here, but the chatting that is going on while being logged in and working. Personal phone calls should be limited to breaks.
QA has heard recordings of agents talking on their cell phones when a call begins. It is extremely unprofessional to allow the potential student to hear you ask your personal call to hold while you take the student's call, not to mention the distraction to you and to those around you.
I'm sure that everyone will take this reminder to heart and we won't have to bring it up again. You folks are the best, and I know how easy it can be to get into bad habits. Now we just need to get out from under this one as a team. Thanks!

This is a no brainer. We work in cubicles taking calls. We wear headsets and talk for a living. Stay off your cellphone dumbass! These are the same idiots that cause traffic accidents everyday because they have to gossip on their cellphones 24/7. Fucking idiots.
Here's another one from the no brain department. Remember people, I work in a CALL CENTER:
Hey folks,
We all have distractions in the office... from folks walking by and conversing with your neighbors to the sound of door alarms going off in the hallway. We have tried to limit these distractions by creating a work environment that fosters focus, enabling phone agents to minimize the mistakes that we all make from time to time.
One thing that seems to have grown into a trend is the use of personal stereos. I'm referring to I-Pods and other MP3 or CD players which folks listen to with headphones. While we addressed open air radios and music players when we first began this account, we have not had an issue with personal stereos till now. We must now ask that you not use these devices while working on the phones. From now on, any music will need to be listened to on break only. While any limitations on music pains me in a basic way, I hope that you who will be affected by this can understand that we are trying to maximize our productivity and accuracy and that this is one more step in that direction. If you have any questions regarding this policy, please feel free to ask me. Thanks for your immediate compliance and your understanding.
Jim
Yes, you read that right. Enough people here in the hollowed cubicles are actually dumb enough to listen to music on headphones WHILE TAKING CALLS ON A HEADSET that they had to write a memo concerning this problem! There is no end to the amount of stupidity in the world.
Of course the caller can hear the music. How professional is it to have someone talk to you while listening to Marilyn Manson in the background? Is this a reputable company or some kid in a basement with aspirations of grandeur? Give me a break!
We are all adults here. We all had to pass several intelligence tests to be allowed to work here and unlike other company tests that I've taken, these were serious. That means that everyone here should have a basic intelligence level that should allow them to function properly in a professional environment. But I guess that should and would went swirly down the toilet a while back because these people are truly stupid.
End of rant. Thank you.
